Use your metal door as a memory reminder
Put your metal walk in door to good use as a memory jogger. Using magnets (gimme's work best because they are so strong) attach your family's calendar, notes, school projects or "to do" lists to the door. As you leave the house, you will see the attached papers and will "remember" what you previously forgot. A great way to use your otherwise unused door.

How to make your stroller stand out
If you are going to a busy place like an amusement park or zoo and especially if you are planning on renting a stroller, bring something along to tie on and make your stroller stand out. A small balloon or ribbon will make it easier to find in the crowd when you have parked it with the hundreds of other strollers to look at something or eat.

How to get kids to finish a chore promptly
Tired of having a 10 minute task take an hour for one of the kids to complete? Give them a timer. When it's time to get a task done I give them a fair time limit. If the job is done by the time the timer goes off they are free to do what they want. If they don't finish then I get to add another job and more time. Amazingly the jobs are getting done pronto. If the job was completed but not neatly, I add additional time for them to do it right. Eliminates nagging and whining.

How to communicate with your pre-teens
Start this new routine tonight. When It's bedtime, lay with them for about 10 minutes. When it's bedtime, they tend to be more open for conversation. This is a great time to bond with your pre-teen. I start by asking highs and lows. "What was your low for today? What was your high?" It works. It may take a few days, but it will strengthen your relationship. As long as you don't use it to lecture!!!

How to calm a crying baby
Swaddle
Side/Stomach
Suck
Swing
Shush

This will work in a matter of seconds if done properly. Lay the baby on a blanket, and swaddle them super tight. Give the baby a finger or a nook. Put the baby on their side/stomach that way they don't feel that they are falling. Give them a good back and forth swing motion, and all ssssshhhh them louder then they are crying. Just don't give up, it takes a little practice!

Teach babies to listen to you when you are serious
From the time your baby is a newborn, always have a distinct voice when disciplining your baby. Never use your discipline voice when you are playing with your child. Your child will always take you seriously when you use that voice.

Purchase neon light sticks before special event
My kids always want the light up toys vendors sell when we go to a fireworks display or something at night. To remedy this, I bring along our own light up sticks that I find at a dollar store. This way they are happy and I save a lot of money!

Schedule special date night with your kids
Read about this somewhere before I had kids, filed it away, and just started doing it recently. Each month on the date of your child(ren)'s birthday, they get to pick one parent with whom to go do something. For example, if your son's or daughter's birthday is August 8th, the eighth of each month, he gets a "date night" with the parent of his choice. Doesn't have to be expensive or even cost anything...just time alone, being heard, feeling special.

Foolproof way to know bike is your own
If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike.
