Tired of having a 10 minute task take an hour for one of the kids to complete? Give them a timer. When it's time to get a task done I give them a fair time limit. If the job is done by the time the timer goes off they are free to do what they want. If they don't finish then I get to add another job and more time. Amazingly the jobs are getting done pronto. Start this new routine tonight. When It's bedtime, lay with them for about 10 minutes. When it's bedtime, they tend to be more open for conversation. This is a great time to bond with your pre-teen. I start by asking highs and lows. "What was your low for today? What was your high?" It works. It may take a few days, but it will strengthen your relationship. This will work in a matter of seconds if done properly. Lay the baby on a blanket, and swaddle them super tight. Give the baby a finger or a nook. Put the baby on their side/stomach that way they don't feel that they are falling. Give them a good back and forth swing motion, and all ssssshhhh them louder then they are crying. Read about this somewhere before I had kids, filed it away, and just started doing it recently. Each month on the date of your child(ren)'s birthday, they get to pick one parent with whom to go do something. For example, if your son's or daughter's birthday is August 8th, the eighth of each month, he gets a "date night" with the parent of his choice.
