 | | | Cooking Perfect peanut butter and jelly Most people spread peanut butter on one slice of bread and jelly on the other, then assemble the sandwich and send it off with Junior who likely won’t eat it for several hours. By then the moist jelly will have permeated the bread and made it all a soggy mess. Instead, try this: Spread peanut butter on both slices, add a dollop of jelly to the middle and close the sandwich. The peanut butter locks in the moisture of the jelly and the bread retains its original firmness. Works every time! | | | | | | andrea in south freeport, maine | Tips Published: 2 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (0)

 | | | Cooking > Beverages Setting limits on coffee A dear friend always had a tiny coffee pot on the stove. It amused me until I realized a four cup limit is a great way to set limits on consumption and not waste half a pot at the end of the day. One always has fresh brew the house always smells like a cafe and it doesn't take over the stove. | | | | | | Janet in Hamilton, Ma | Tips Published: 3 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (0)

 | | | Cooking > Produce Fresh broccoli Wash your broccoli when you bring it home from the grocery store. Put the broccoli in a zip-top bag, then wet two towels with water, squeeze out the excess water and put them in the bag. The broccoli will stay fresh for weeks. | | | | | | Ryan in Ogema, Wi | Tips Published: 8 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (0)

 | | | Cooking > Meal prep Turn turkey into a delicious meatloaf Crumble frozen turkey into a bowl. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion, parsley and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. To hold the mix together, add 1/3 to 1/2 cup unprepared instant potato flakes. Flakes are a better binding agent than bread crumbs. Shape the mixture into a short loaf. Fry or bake until cooked thoroughly. With much less fat than ground beef. Spread some mustard on top of the loaf for an even zestier taste! | | | | | | Ryan in Ogema, Wi | Tips Published: 8 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (0)

 | | | Cooking > Clean up Copper bottom pot cleaner I discovered this neat trick by accident and have done it ever since! The next time you make a red spaghetti sauce—plain tomato sauce works just as well--keep a small amount in reserve to de-tarnish your copper-bottom pots and pans during after-dinner clean-up. Simply apply a thin layer of sauce to the pot bottom, wait a minute, then rub gently with a sponge to cover the entire surface. Rinse off to find a gleaming bright coppery finish. | | | | | | andrea in south freeport, maine | Tips Published: 2 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (0)

 | | | Cooking > Spices Crabby potato salad Next time you boil potatoes for potato salad, stir in a bag of crab seasoning (you can find it in the seafood section of you grocery store) to the pot. When the potatoes are cooked, discard the bag and make your salad as usual. I'm always asked to make the potato salad for church suppers or family get togethers. | | | | | | Joanne in Berkeley, MO | Tips Published: 46 Forward to Friend | Post Comment | Comments (1)
