Drink water in the morning to wake up
When you get up in the morning you are dehydrated from going 6-9 hours without any liquids. Before you leave for work, or before you eat breakfast, drink a full glass of cool (not cold) water. It will hydrate you, wake you up, and even make you a little fuller so you will not feel the need to eat as large a breakfast. Some people even find they no longer need coffee when they drink a glass of water in the morning.

Doctors only have 15 minutes to see a patient. To help them help you, organize your problem in the way they think: onset (when did it start), location (where does it hurt), duration (how long has it been hurting), character (what type of pain is it), modifiers (what makes it better or worse), radiation (does the pain move anywhere), temporal (what pattern does the pain have), associated symptoms, prior history, family history of same problem.

How to keep track of your medications
If you take a lot of medications, the best way to help your doctor out is to take all the prescription bottles, put them in a Ziploc bag, and bring them with you to your appointment. If you would rather not bring everything, write down these important tidbits: name (brand/generic), dosage, how you take it, and when you take it. For example, I might take Aspirin 81 mg by mouth once a day.
